About IBDP
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is a rigorous academic programme offered in Grades 11 and 12.
Subjects
- 6 subject groups
- First Language, Second Language, Individuals and Society, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics and Visual Arts.
- Choose from all subject groups with 3 subjects at Higher Level and 3 at Standard Level.
- Also complete 3 core components of Extended Essay (research essay), Theory of Knowledge (an enquiry into the nature of knowledge) and CAS( Creativity, Action and Service activities).
Grading
- Graded 1 through 7, with 7 being the highest level of achievement and 1 being the lowest
- Assessments include coursework, practical exercises, oral and listening tests, and written examinations.
- Internal Assessments (IAs) in their subjects and externally assessed exams at the end of their two years
Difference in IBDP & A levels
A Levels
- In-depth expertise and mainly exam oriented. More specialized and focus on three or four subjects
- Graded with letters, A* being the highest grade
- Flexibility in choosing subjects – a child good with numbers can take math, further math and physics
International Baccalaureate
- Encourages a global outlook with inquiry-based learning and internal assessments balanced with exams.
- Subjects are scored from 1 to 7, need 24 to obtain the diploma, and 12 points in HL subjects.
- Students need a mix of humanities, sciences, and languages, making the program balanced
